C.J. Carmona is a Professor in the field of AI at the University of Jaén, and his main research focuses on obtaining descriptive rules in reliable and explainable knowledge environments, addressing complex areas such as big data, data streaming, and federated and distributed machine learning. His research is reflected in more than 80 publications, with over 70% in very high-impact journals and more than 2,000 citations in Google Scholar. He leads several projects as Principal Investigator (PI) of the Spanish National Research Plan, one of them a dual-purpose project with the Ministry of Defense and SICNOVA for the identification of critical components of weapons in advanced manufacturing. Furthermore, his research has a strong collaborative character, with over 15% of his publications involving active international collaborations with universities in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. He has supervised a total of 5 doctoral theses (2 of them at De Montfort University in Leicester) and is currently supervising another 4 theses in Spain.

In addition to research, his work has a strong focus on knowledge transfer, addressing real-world problems in fields such as agriculture, medicine, bioinformatics, and renewable energy. This culminated in the creation in 2025 of GLOSSO, a spin-off company from the University of Jaén, which he founded and where he serves as Technical and Operations Director.

His academic management work extends to the training of young researchers and university administration, where he has held various coordination and leadership positions in the implementation of new academic programs at the University of Jaén. This entire career is supported by six-year research and teaching evaluations, an Excellent teaching rating, and numerous awards and recognitions for his scientific publications.
