Francisco Herrera

Francisco Herrera is Professor of Artificial Intelligence at the University of Granada and Director of the Andalusian Institute for Research in Data Science and Computational Intelligence. He is a member of the Royal Academy of Engineering of Spain (2019), served on the Spanish government's Artificial Intelligence Advisory Council (CAIA) (2021-2023), and is a Corresponding Member of the Cuban Academy of Sciences (2023).

 

In the field of Artificial Intelligence, he has supervised more than 60 doctoral theses and directed more than 70 research and knowledge transfer projects in artificial intelligence. He has published more than 700 scientific articles in international journals, and his publications have received more than 180,000 citations, with an h-index of 196 on Google Scholar. He is indexed in the Clarivate Analytics list of highly cited researchers worldwide in Computer Science and Engineering (2014-2024), and ranked 10th in the Research.com “Best Computer Science Scientists” world ranking (November 2024).

 

He has received numerous national and international awards and recognitions for his research. His current research focuses on ethical and trustworthy artificial intelligence and general-purpose AI models. He is committed to the importance of disseminating research results to society, training new generations of researchers, and developing a digital innovation and artificial intelligence ecosystem in Granada and Andalusia.
